Advent Reflection: Second Week of Advent Year B

Readings:
Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11
2 Peter 3:8-14
Mark 1:1-8

Theme: PEACE

Last week we started our journey into the season of Advent and we began preparing a space in our hearts to welcome the child Jesus at Christmas. As we attempt to make that space, we may encounter stubborn occupants of our hearts, undesirable occupants such as anger, pride, addictions and so on. What do we do when faced with these barriers, do we struggle to fight them on our own?

In this second week of Advent, we are reminded of the grace of peace that God wants to give us through his Son Jesus Christ. Instead of struggling on our own and losing our peace in doing so, we should perhaps turn to God for help. Know that God really wants us to be close to His Son Jesus, and He is fully aware of our weaknesses. So, with humility let us look deep into our hearts to identify what needs to change. Then with courage and faith, let us repent of our sins just as the people in the Gospel did. God will heal us.
